Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
A couple months before I left Framestore to go work on Avatar in New Zealand, I was asked to do Fawkes the Phoenix once again for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I was the main TD on him for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Warner Brothers was happy with what we had achieved then, and wanted us to do it again for the Half Blood Prince. It took a few weeks to dust him off. A lot of software had changed and most of the feather system needed re-building with modern techniques. It’s amazing how much changes in 3 years in the visual effects industry. Luckily it wasn’t a big ordeal and I managed to set him up, lighting him, and render out about 6 shots for the movie in a couple months. My favorite was his mourning song after Dumbledor died.
