On Sunday I went to the cast and crew screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As it was on the day of the premier in Leicester Square, it was quite an event. The entire green of the square was done up like the chocolate river section of the chocolate factory.

Best of all were all the crazy Johnny Depp fans who had lined up since early morning to get a prime spot along the velvet rope. I got to walk down the red carpet area as I had tickets to see the screening since I kind of indirectly worked on it. We did the squirrels, which despite all of the press releases, were mostly NOT real. Only about half of the close ups were real squirrels. Though I can understand why so many movies have been denying the use of CG lately. CG seems to have gained the reputation of an overused parlor trick.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory turned out to be an amazing movie. Overall I was entertained the whole time. Though certain moments were very disturbing. I haven’t been able to decide if it was disturbing in a bad way. It’s Tim Burton after all. You sort of expect to wince from time to time.
