I’m the Dalai Lama’s Neighbor |

I’ve been really busy, hence the lack of posts. I spent a half week in a chilled out town around a holy lake called Pushkar. It was pretty touristy, but there were plenty of ways to escape that element. It was a big hippy hang out, but I didn’t have the time to really immerse myself like they did. Next was Jaipur, which is the largest city in Rajasthan. It had a few notable sites, which I didn’t see. I met a few Indian guys that took me around for two days. They took me to a wedding reception, one of their uncle’s elephant stables, a cheesy night club, and lots more. Then onward to Delhi where Jo arrived from London. We did some sight seeing and exploring, but the city is a bit too frenetic to relax in. So we spent a day in Agra to see the Taj Mahal, which was amazing. I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the hype but it really did. I’ll post photos of it later. Next was Amristar, home of the Sikh faith. We stayed in the dorms of the Golden Temple, which was stunning. I’m surprised this isn’t more of a tourist draw. It’s a massive complex of white stone. In the middle is a pond with a, as the name implies, Golden Temple sitting in it. Really beautiful. We also stopped by an amusing border ceremony between Pakisthan and India. Lots of stomping, cheering, and flag waving. I’m now staying in McLeod Ganj, home of his holiness the Dalai Lama. It’s a small Tibetan refugee village which is part of the greater community of Dharamsala. It’s a beautiful and lush mountain landscape in the foothills of the Himalayas. I fly back to London on Sunday, so I’ll start more detailed posts with photos then. |
