This Pajamas Media article talks about the British papers’ formula for segmented a news market, and how it’s started to trickle into the US via the Internet. There are many daily papers in London, which vary from tabloid to “legitimate”. However, all of them are unabashedly biased towards their desired market. When I first moved here I found it difficult to pick a paper because all of them were so obviously opinionated. However, I’ve found my paper, and enjoy reading it more than any of the US equivalents.

At first I was sceptical that biased news could really keep the public as informed as the conservative American papers. Us yanks have been raised to believe that news media should be just the facts. Journalistic integrity and all that. However, people here read the news more. Also, because the papers are honest about their bias, people take everything with a pinch of salt and remain open minded. Though… maybe not Daily Mail readers.
