I arrived into Mumbai after a 9 hour flight from London Heathrow. It was about 40 C and very humid. I was lucky enough to have a contact here, Simran, who’s family welcomed me into their home. I had explicit instructions on how to get a taxi form the airport to their apartment in Caffe Parade. It took about an hour and a half to get there, and the ride was amazing. So many new sights sounds and smells. The most striking of all was the density of people, and how many homes don’t consist of more than some scrap ruins. I passed through miles of shanty towns on the way.

There are people everywhere, so as a white person you are always under someone else’s stare. Generally, if you stop for more than 10 seconds or so, someone will come up to you to ask for money, offer you a taxi ride, or to sell you something. I had been warned of this, so I was ready for it. Though by the end of each day I was truly exhausted from thinking my way through the barrage of people.

I was there for a few days, so I got an opportunity to explore a lot of the city. Enjoy the photos:
