Daman is an old Portuguese colony which is the only town in that part of India where you can legally get alcohol. So it’s a small coastal town which caters to tourists. However, it’s not on the tourist track for westerners. So unlike Mumbai, where I was approached as a walking cash point, in Daman the people were more awestruck at my presence. It felt strange, but it was nice to escape harassment. I spent the 2 days there exploring the town and the old Portuguese fort. The town has a unique charm.
