I wasn’t looking forward to another big city. Delhi has the reputation of being hot, crowded, and full of touts. It was all of these things, but at this point in my trip I was ready for it. Jo landed on the second day I was there so it was great to have a companion to explore with. The trip really changed for me with her there. India went from being a challenging adventure, to a fun playground to explore. The main attraction in Delhi is the Red Fort, which was closed. So we spent a lot of time at the second biggest tourist attraction (but probably the biggest for muslims), the Jama Masjid mosque. It’s the largest mosque in India. I enjoyed all the mosques that I visited, mostly because of the people there. I’m not sure if it’s due to recent tensions, but I was always welcomed with many smiling hand shakes and photos. After the mosque we wandered through the old delhi spice market, which was full of stalls selling all the unprepared spices that you’d use in Indian cooking. Most of the spices just looked like nuts and rocks. P.S. Some of these pictures might have been taken by Jo, but I can’t remember which. |
